PANAMA CITY, March 5, 2026 – Panama has solidified its status as a premier regional tourism powerhouse, officially reporting a total of 3,004,266 international visitors for the 2025 calendar year. The figures represent an 8.2% increase compared to 2024, signaling a robust and sustained recovery for the nation’s tourism sector.
The influx of visitors has translated into significant economic gains. Tourism-related revenue (excluding international transport) reached 6,583.0 million balboas in 2025, a 9.7% jump from the previous year. This growth highlights the sector’s increasingly critical role as a primary engine for Panama’s national economy.
Connectivity Fuels Growth
The “Hub of the Americas” continues to serve as the nation’s primary gateway. Tocumen International Airport recorded 2,244,078 visitors, a 10% increase that reaffirms Panama’s strategic importance in regional connectivity.
Maritime tourism also saw a major boost, with cruise ship ports welcoming 344,408 passengers—an 11.5% increase. Meanwhile, the Paso Canoas land border maintained steady growth, contributing 106,006 visitors, a 2.9% uptick over the previous year.
Perhaps most significantly, the number of overnight tourists reached 2,330,677, reflecting an 11% growth. Industry experts note that this metric is particularly vital, as it indicates not only a higher volume of visitors but also a trend toward longer stays and increased per-capita spending within the local economy.
A Strategic Vision for the Future
Gloria De León, Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), hailed the milestone as a testament to the country’s evolving strategy.
“Surpassing the 3 million visitor mark is a clear sign that Panama is strengthening its position as a highly competitive destination in the region,” said De León. “These results reflect the impact of our focused strategy on promotion, connectivity, and product diversification. Most importantly, we are successfully attracting visitors who stay longer and generate greater economic impact for the country, further consolidating our status as a hub for congresses and conventions and as the world’s host.”
Building a Sustainable Future
The preliminary data paints a picture of a consistent and healthy recovery. As Panama continues to refine its tourism product, the government remains committed to its strategy of promoting sustainability and competitive differentiation. By leveraging its unique geography, world-class infrastructure, and diverse cultural offerings, Panama aims to maintain this upward trajectory, ensuring that the tourism sector remains a cornerstone of the nation’s long-term economic prosperity.
