New Superintendent of Banks 2020

Mr. Amauri Castillo has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Banks in 2020.

The lawyer and specialist in finance and banking already worked in the Superintendency as Secretary, so he knows the management of the institution. Mr. Castillo had also been part of several bank executive-boards.

The oath was carried out in the office of the Minister of Economy and Finance Mr. Héctor Alexander, who highlighted the importance of the banking sector in the finances of the country, and in turn how this affects the development of the economy, so he pondered the challenge that the new superintendent will face.

The new superintendent thinks that the financial sector requires new leadership, that they are important actors and protagonists and not just spectators, so he has accepted this challenge with great responsibility.

He explained that his work emphasis will be placed in the process of transformation, consolidations, new technologies, greater depth in supervision, new regulations adapted to the Panamanian reality and an immediate electronic payment system.

Another action that will be carried out will be to improve the quality of service, especially in response times in administrative procedures, modernize the Panamanian financial system and strengthen the Superintendecy.

I desire to work together for a banking sector to be safe, modern, efficient, transparent, concerning financial and fiscal subjects,” said Castillo.

At the end of October 2019, the Banking Center had assets for USD 121,825.23 million, an amount that represents a 2.04% growth compared to 2018.
